Mr Rea Lectures on BPPV

Mr Rea was invited to present a lecture on "Surgical Treatment of BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional dizziness)" at Brown's Courtrooms in central London, as part of the British Society of Otology Annual General Meeting. He presented his audited series of posterior canal occlusion surgery operations to a distinguished audience.

This operation is performed on the very small proportion of patients who have distressing BPPV which does not respond to the usual particle repositioning treatments such as Epley manoeuvres.

Those suffering with this condition are sent to him by colleagues from around the UK for specialist treatment. Thankfully most can still be treated successfully without the need for an operation, but the audited outcomes from surgery have been very encouraging.

The London Road Clinic fortunately has a full suite of balance investigation equipment which allows careful assessment of his patients before such interventions are considered to both ensure the diagnosis is correct, and to provide an accurate assessment of the potential benefits and risks of surgery.
