Professor Joel Goebel
Mr Rea is delighted to be able to have Professor Joel Goebel from Washington University, USA, saying with him at home during the annual balance course. Many new ideas are discussed in all topics of balance.
Audit and Clinical Governance
Mr Rea, who is lead for both audit and clinical governance at The Leicester Royal Infirmary, is attending Trust wide meetings that aim to improve reporting standards at UHL.
National Audit for Otology
Mr Rea and his team have completed the preliminary data gathering of major ear surgery at The Leicester Royal Infirmary with the aim of developing a National Audit for Otology. He is working with a small group of expert ear surgeons nationally to set standards for all ear surgeons throughout England.
Meniere’s Society
October 10th 2015. Mr Rea has given 2 talks to the Meniere’s Society annual meeting in London to complete a hectic week! He spoke on migraine and dizziness and then spoke of an international study he is participating in with an American biotech company: he injects long acting steroids into he ears of patients with Meniere’s Disease.
The British Society of Neuro-otology
October 9th 2015. Mr Rea is Chairman of The British Society of Neuro-otology. The biennial meeting was held this year at Imperial College in London and a wonderful display of UK and European research was presented. This included the first results of a long running study looking at injecting gentamicin or prednisolone into the inner ears of those with Meniere’s Disease. The study was led by the Imperial team and Mr Rea was approached to use his balance centre in Leicester as a second site which allowed the study to be completed. He’s not allowed to say any more until the results are published.
Leicester Balance Course
Mr Rea has run the world renown Leicester Balance Course for 11 years now. This years was perhaps the best ever with specialists from around the UK, Europe, and the Middle East attending for 3 days of expert teaching.
