Namibia Visit
Mr Rea has 3 weeks with his wife and children in the wilds of Namibia. 100’s of km’s of empty dirt tracks and barren beauty. He assures us he will be back re-energised for all that the next few months will bring.
British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology
Mr Rea is on Liverpool for the British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology. The “ENT Olympics!” He has been asked to lecture on injectable drugs for ear disease.
Ground-Breaking Operation
Mr Rea has undertaken the first operation of its type (to his knowledge) in this region for patulous eustachian tube - a most unpleasant condition where the tube from the nose to their is too open leading to disturbing sounds in the ears and the sound of on’s own voice. A special graft was placed in the skull base via the nose using tiny cameras. Initial result very encouraging!
TV Documentary
Mr Rea hosts a film crew at The London Road Clinic for a TV documentary on a lady who has felt all at sea for 60 years. Doreen, who you can meet on TV in the new year, was quite wonderful. The clinic staff were even more smartly turned out than ever (ed. if that is possible!) and had the clinic looking beautiful.
Cycling in France
Mr Rea is off again. This time cycling with old friends through a rather hilly part of France. He assures us he manages up to 100 miles per day with full panniers on his bike. Next year he will be cycling to Paris he thinks.
Copenhagen Visit
Mr Rea has been invited to Copenhagen to view new developments in implantable hearing aid technology. He came back rather envious of the working conditions at the institution he visited as he was straight back on call for 7 days in his NHS job!
