15th January 2016

Mr Rea works closely with his paediatric colleague Dr Mike Williamson running part of a national service for children with a rare genetic disorder: primary ciliary dyskinesia. It causes blocked noses, chesty coughs, and often blocked or runny ears. They have specialist facilities to investigate and treat these problems. Data from their specialist work is presented today at the MIO to a large audience of ENT surgeons.

3rd February 2016

Mr Rea has given a series of lectures exploring non-vestibular causes of dizziness at the British Society of Otology annual balance course in Bristol.

4th February 2016

Mr Rea is National Secretary of the British Society of Otology and has been part of the organising team for this years hugely successful meeting in Bristol which concentrated on otological emergencies - that is acute conditions of the ear such as infection, mastoiditis, brain complications of ear infection, severe otitis external (outer ear infections), and dizziness. He also presented data as part of his work towards a national otology audit which all ENT surgeons may have to contribute to - work aiming to improve standards in ENT nationally.

5th February 2016

Mr Rea is delighted to learn today that his scientific paper “Bilateral Posterior Canal Occlusion Surgery for Intractable BPPV” has been accepted for publication in the leading journal Clinical Otolaryngology. This describes his ground breaking surgery for a common form of dizziness - having performed the first bilateral cases reported in Europe.
