March News from the London Road Clinic

Life has suddenly changed. Professor Rea’s annual skiing trip was cancelled at one day's notice and much more importantly The London Road Clinic has had to temporarily close its doors because of COVID-19, and many peoples lives came to a standstill. Professor Rea reassures all his patients (old and new) he is still available for consultations by Skype or telephone and the contact numbers are displayed on the London Road Clinic website. It is no trouble at all keeping in touch and he encourages his patients not to sit on problems. Very many issues can be easily resolved with remote consultations and it may be much safer to do this now than wait until the pandemic recedes. Over many years Professor Rea has undertaken video or telephone consultations with his overseas patients (and can still do so) and is advising many of his UK patients this way. Please keep in touch!

Professor Rea has been working overtime helping develop national guidelines during the COVID-19 outbreak, as part of his work as President of The British Society of Otology. He has co-authored guidelines on otology surgery in the COVID-19 era, and surgical prioritisation of otology surgery in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. Both are published nationally. He has also contributed to the Public Health England guidelines on PPE for surgeons during the COVID-19 outbreak. He would also like to add how proud he is of Professor Chris Whitty, Chief Medical Officer (who you will see on your TV most nights!) who he trained at Oxford Medical School with.
